Complement Peptide Receptor Phosphorylation Assays

Complement peptide receptors are activated by a small peptide fragments called C3a, C5a and C5adesArg (previously called anaphylatoxins) that are produced by the complement cascade. Complement peptides are potent chemoattractants and secretagogues that act on immune and non-immune cells. The physiological effects of complement peptides are mediated by a family of three seven transmembrane receptors (7TMRs) designated as C3a, C5a1 and C5a2. While C3a and C5a1 are classical G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), C5a2 appears to be permanently uncoupled from G proteins. However,  both C5a1 and C5a2 are required for full pro-inflammatory responses.
